Want to know a little about Sammy Kitwara?
I’ve just arrived this afternoon in Atlanta to race Peachtree 10k. In case anyone is interested – the weather is…not bad. 86 in the mid-afternoon, low(er) humidity. I bumped into Sammy Kitwara in the hotel lobby, and I thought perhaps it would be an interesting post to copy the elite athlete list that is handed to me when I pick up my number in the hospitality suite. I just am baffled at the exceptionally high level this guy is at…here is what was handed to me.
Sammy Kitwara Age 22
*This year Sammy has won four consecutive road races, including World’s Best 10k, and ran personal best times at 10k, 12k, and half marathon distances. His 27:44 victory in 10,000m at the New KCC national race (Kenyan Nationals) at 1900m altitude, edging three other runners by one second – was the fastest 10,000m. ever run on Kenyan soil, and automatically qualifies him to represent Kenya in the Berlin at the World Championships.
He has two 10k runs in the top 100 fastest 10k road performances so far this year. He currently holds the IAAF 2009 World Ranking #1 for 20k and #3 for 10k, and ARRS all-time world ranking #1 for 12k…
All in all, I’m thinking he’s got a fair shot at winning tomorrow…
